This 40,000 square foot convenience neighborhood shopping center is located in Belleair Bluffs, Florida, a suburb of Clearwater.
The center was built in the 1960's, but purchased by Chicago developer Harry Dolan in 1983. It was given a major facelift, both inside and out, and an old Winn-Dixie was replaced by a new Walgreen Drugs and Liquors.
The center is at the major intersection of West Bay Drive and Indian Rocks Road. West Bay is a major east-west artery connecting Tampa to the resort islands in the Gulf of Mexico (the bridge is just a block from the center). Indian Rocks Road is a major north-south artery connecting downtown Clearwater to Largo and St. Petersburg.
Belleair Bluffs is a well established, affluent community with a year-around population. The population within three miles is 75,460 and the average family income is $46,365 (2000). The population on the off-shore islands is tremendous in the tourist season, and those winter guests drive by The Bluffs to get to the mainland.
The Bluffs, and the immediate intersection, are undergoing a major re-orientation toward fine and fun dining. The Bluffs is now co-anchored by the recently-opened Surf & Turf, a gourmet meat and seafood market which also offers imported cheeses, party platters, and ready-to-cook dishes. Together with Panera Bread and Cody's Original Roadhouse, both popular chains, The Bluffs is a key shopping, dining and entertainment destination for the neighborhood and Suncoast beaches. Across the street are the recently opened Bonefish Grill and Marlin' Darlin' seafood restaurants, while around the corner is the well-established E&E's Steakout.
